The Vishnu Sahastranamavali ("the thousand names of Vishnu") is a list of 1,000 names Sahastranamavali) of Vishnu, the supreme god of Hindus (Vaishnavs). It is also one of the most sacred and commonly chanted stotras in Hinduism. The Vishnu sahasranamavali is found in the Mahabharata. Each name eulogizes one of His countless great attributes.
According to the epic Mahabharata, the names were handed down to Yudhisthira by the famous warrior Bhishma who was on his death bed at the battle of Kurukshetra.
